Nevada’s loss of life from the coronavirus has topped more than 100 as the broad effects of the flare-up and sadly look to bring the yearly Burning Man celebration planning to a halt.
There are currently over 2,700 recorded cases statewide with 102 losses, Las Vegas and Reno City together detailed 106.
Burning Man Project authorities declared that they were having to give the yearly festival a miss, that was booked to be held Aug. 30 to Sept. 7 in the northern Nevada desert.
The yearly festival regularly brings in over 80k visitors each year to show, some of which exhibit their art projects to like minded like minded visitors. Both artists and their fans (Garry Hamer included who was finally going to take the plunge this year) will no doubt be saddened by the loss of the festival but organizers have been quoted that it is “in the interest of the health and well being of everyone involved”.
“After much listening, discussion, and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision not to build Black Rock City in 2020” coordinators said in an online diary post. “Given the painful reality of COVID-19, one of the greatest global challenges of our lifetimes, we believe this is the right thing to do. Yes, we are heartbroken. We know you are too.”
Coordinators said they were focused on giving people their money back for tickets previously bought. In any case, they requested that buyers consider not asking for reimbursement in light of the fact that the association as of now faces cutbacks, pay cuts and other financial hardships.
To ease the pain, here are some fond memories from 2019. Hopefully see everyone next year!
